  • Weddings abroad are the perfect way to combine the most special day of your life with the ultimate honeymoon.

It's a good choice whether you want your wedding to be a private, intimate affair that's just between you, your intended, and the vicar's wife as a witness-- or a grand destination event where you invite all your friends and family. Either way, it will be a romantic occasion you'll remember forever.

But the first question you need to ask when you plan your distant wedding ceremony is, where will it be? It could be a little overwhelming. After all, there are hundreds of places in the world to choose from.

You might try a beach wedding in Bermuda, Barbados, St. Lucia, or the Cayman Islands. Or perhaps a Mediterranean dream wedding in France, Spain, Greece, or Italy.

If you and your fiance share a common ancestry, it would be incredibly romantic to stage your wedding in the land of your forefathers, complete with traditional dress and perhaps even a reception filled with native foods and dancing.

Weddings abroad can also be fabulous in locations such as Eastern Europe (Croatia or the Czech Republic), Africa (a South African safari), Asia (Cambodia or Sri Lanka), South America (Brazil is another great place for a beach wedding), or New Zealand or Australia.

Wherever you decide to have your dream wedding, you must decide whether it is to be a simple or elaborate affair. You'll find that destination weddings are the specialty of many wedding planners. There are even companies that focus on weddings in many places in the world. They can help you in so many ways. They can find the right vendors for food, flowers, music, and more. Of course, you must also be aware of the need for passports, visas, and vaccines for both of you and your guests.

If you plan on inviting all your friends and relatives to your wedding abroad, don't forget to plan a quick escape so you can enjoy a private honeymoon!
